Dunfermline school children had a right royal time meeting meerkats in St Andrews.
The primary two and three class at Pitcorthie Primary School won the trip to St Andrews Aquarium thanks to Rebekka Stewart.
The seven-year-old came up with the winning name for the aquarium’s fourth meerkat. Given the fact two other meerkats who arrived their this year were named Wills and Kate in honour of the royal couple who met in the town, Rebekka came up with an equally regal moniker Windsor.
Kate and Wills’ baby was named Piper by Marc Penman from South Parks Primary in Glenrothes.
Class teacher Claire Stewart entered her young pupils into the competition to name the new addition to the aquarium.
After Miss Stewart organised a royal wedding week for her class, the children gained a lot of knowledge about the royal family.
As the meerkat family at St Andrews included the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s namesakes, Rebekka decided the name Windsor was perfect.
Judges were touched when the pupil wrote on her entry form that her class should win the prize, a trip to meet the meerkats, as Miss Stewart deserved a day out.
