A Polish doctor who has been working at Ninewells Hospital is due to go before his professional body next week to consider his fitness to practise.
Dr Wlodzimierz Szepielow, a neurologist, already has restrictions on his work which prevent him working in private practice.
His medical practice is confined to NHS hospital posts in neurology where his work must be supervised by a named consultant. He must inform the General Medical Council if he applies for medical employment outside the UK.
Next week the GMC’s Fitness to Practise Panel will meet in Manchester to consider a new case of impairment by reason of “deficient professional performance.”
The panel will inquire into the allegation that following assessment by the General Medical Council early last year, Dr Szepielow’s professional performance was found to be a cause for concern and below the acceptable minimum standards required. The hearing is expected to last several days.
The GMC has advised that the allegation as it stands at the start of the hearing may be amended as the hearing proceeds and when findings of fact are made by the panel.
NHS Tayside’s associate director of workforce George Doherty said, “We are aware that Dr Szepielow is currently subject to review by the GMC and it would be inappropriate to make any comment.”
