A 26-year-old man who died in a horrific three-vehicle accident on the A93 near Spittal of Glenshee on Wednesday has today been named by police.
Scott McIntosh, of David Street, Blairgowrie, was the driver of a van travelling on the A93, some five miles south of the Spittal of Glenshee, when it collided with another van and an articulated lorry.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near Dalnaglar Castle shortly before 1pm to find Mr Mcintosh seriously injured and trapped in the wreckage of his white panel van.
An appliance from Glenshee was swiftly joined at the accident site by crews from Kirkmichael and Blairgowrie, together with a heavy rescue unit from Perth.
Mr Mcintosh was assessed and stabilised in his vehicle by a trauma team from before firefighters could move in to begin his rescue.
They used hydraulic cutting equipment to painstakingly free him from the van, before he was carefully lifted into a waiting air ambulance for transfer to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where he tragically later died.
The occupants of the other two vehicles escaped without injury.
The accident took place in miserable driving conditions, with heavy rain falling for much of the day and with significant surface water on roads in and around Blairgowrie and surrounding communities.
The A93 north of Blairgowrie was blocked in both directions as a result of the accident, with heavy traffic building up towards the town and to the north at Spittal of Glenshee.
Motorists experienced significant delays as emergency services worked at the scene and police officers put a number of diversions in place.
Crash investigators also attended to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Anyone who may have seen any of the vehicles prior to the incident or may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact police on 0300 111 2222.
