It is likely to be quite some time before police are able to question the husband of murdered Longforgan woman Jane Cumming.

Due to the injuries he sustained in a crash on the A90 Perth to Dundee dual carriageway near Bullionfield on Friday, Neil Cumming (45) is still heavily sedated in Ninewells Hospital.

His condition is being described as “serious,” although his injuries are no longer said to be life-threatening.

Officers want to talk to him after his wife’s body was found in their home around 2pm last Friday, a few hours after his car collided with a lorry on the A90.

A police spokesman said, “Inquiries are still continuing into the incident. The A90 casualty remains in a serious condition in hospital and he is heavily sedated. Understandably, officers have not had an opportunity to speak to him yet.”

Officers are understood to be at his bedside and will remain there until he is awake and able to talk.

Mrs Cumming (40) died after being stabbed, it has emerged. The bank sales adviser’s body was found in her home in Mary Findlay Drive when police arrived to tell her that her husband had been involved in the crash.

Her death was officially classified as murder following the results of a post mortem. Now it has come to light she was stabbed.

A cordon was thrown around the house after the grim discovery, while forensics officers carried out investigations at the scene.

A grey Vauxhall Passat Estate, believed to belong to Michelin worker Mr Cumming, collided with a Mercedes lorry on the dual carriageway, near the Landmark Hotel.

The police spokesman said, “The force will not disclose the nature of the injuries that led to Mrs Cumming’s death, but are able to state that she was murdered.”

Blairgowrie-born Mrs Cumming was a sales adviser at TSB in Albert Street, Dundee. She is survived by her husband and their children, 12-year-old Nicole and Claire (11).

The children are staying with relatives and police family liaison officers will remain in contact with them while the investigation is carried out.

Extensive door-to-door inquiries have been carried out in Longforgan. Detectives have trawled private CCTV to try to piece together Mrs Cumming’s last movements.

The police said they have been encouraged by the public response to appeals for information. But they are still appealing for anyone who may have seen Mrs Cumming, in either Dundee or the Longforgan area on Thursday evening or Friday morning, to come forward.

She may have been driving her silver Toyota Yaris with the private registration W2 BJC.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should call 0300 111 2222 or speak to their local officer.
