Dundee United v Slask Wroclaw: police advice for home fans in Eddie Thompson Stand

Tayside Police have issued advice for Dundee United fans attending tonight’s Europa League match against Slask Wroclaw.

They say fans with tickets for the Eddie Thompson Stand should only approach the ground from the Arklay Street side of Tannadice Street. All other approaches to the stand will be closed to home supporters.

Police say no exceptions will be made.

An ‘away support only’ area is being created in Tannadice Street from Neish Street to North Isla Street. No home supporters will be allowed to pass through this area.

Police say this is being done to ensure the safety of all fans before and after the match and to provide a “sterile” area should there be any requirement to evacuate the ground.

The restrictions will remain in place at the end of the match and supporters in the Eddie Thompson stand will be asked to move towards Arklay Street.

The advice follows an earlier appeal today by the force asking fans of both clubs to enjoy the match “in the right way.”

There have been reports of incidents on Wednesday night and in the lead-up to the match today. The police stressed that these mainly involved “boisterous, but good natured behaviour.”

A spokesman said, “We are aware of incidents where objects were alleged to have been thrown indiscriminately, or even at vehicles, last night and this morning. Such behaviour will not be tolerated and we would appeal for anyone with information or concerns about anti-social or criminal behaviour to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.

“There is an increase and visible police presence in Dundee today and that will continue tonight and the match at Tannadice will receive an appropriate police presence. Tayside Police will be proactive in their role in ensuring that tonight’s European fixture is a successful event.”

Officers have been handing out leaflets to Slask Wroclaw supporters that are written in Polish. The leaflet welcomes them to the city and reminds them of their responsibilities.

The spokesman added, “It is our hope and expectation that both sets of supporters will enjoy the occasion in a suitable manner.”
