Circus of the Orient will pitch its big top in Forfar next week.
Chinese warriors and acrobats who dice with death will be among the main attractions.
International circus stars from China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Romania and France will be performing at The Myre, ahead of appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Such performances are normally only seen by audiences in major cities. Carol and Phillip Gandey, the creators and producers of the internationally acclaimed Chinese State Circus, created Circus of the Orient because they were aware that many towns were denied the excitement of a world-class show.
The Myre show, on July 29 and 30, will feature martial arts performed by the world famous Shaolin Wu Shu Warriors, appearing by permission of the Abbott of the Shaolin Temple and the Chinese Ministry Of Culture.
Phillip Gandey, artistic director, said, “This production is a brilliant mix of oriental and western elements to create a thrilling, entertaining and laughter-packed show which will appeal to all the family.”
The show includes springboard acrobatics from Julio Troupe, combined with supreme aerialists Trio Serik, who will be on hanging straps high in the roof of the big top.
Executive producer Carol Gandey explained that the big top, which seats up to 500 people, was specially designed to be erected then dismantled in a fraction of the normal time.
“This means we can visit smaller towns and remoter communities that in the past have been totally ignored by international touring companies because it would not have been economically viable,” she said. For more information visit www.circusoftheorient.co.uk
