Dundee United have been reported to UEFA after some fans encroached on to the pitch during Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against Slask Wroclaw.

The governing body’s match delegate has drawn attention to the fact that several United supporters ran on to the playing surface after David Goodwillie put his side 2-0 up on the night.

Ironically, it was the Polish club’s supporters who were responsible for crowd trouble in Dundee city centre and outside Tannadice on the night, with four fans arrested.

However, it is United who are in trouble with UEFA a fact which has angered club chairman Stephen Thompson.

“There needs to be common sense,” he said. “We have been reported for one fan going a foot on to the pitch, picking something up and going straight back to his seat.

“That is ridiculous when you consider that all day on Thursday and at night we had running battles on the streets involving their fans.

“There was even riot police involved and the match commander told me that doing an Old Firm game was a walk in the park compared to dealing with them.

“Scottish clubs when you think of what happened with Rangers fans in Bucharest seem to get hammered by UEFA. In fact, it’s British clubs … yet others seem to get away with it.

“UEFA will treat the incidents separately and it’s up to the police whether or not they report the incidents outside of the ground.”
