Axeon charged with developing batteries for next-generation van
ByNews reporter
Dundee-based Axeon is hoping to power the next generation of white vans after striking a new battery supply agreement.
The Wester Gourdie firm, which claims to be Europe’s leading independent developer and manufacturer of lithiumion systems, is to provide two prototype batteries for a new hybrid electric van concept vehicle.
The 25kWh Axeon battery pack will enable the van to run over 60 miles on electric power from the battery before the more conventional engine kicks in to extend the range to over 400 miles and simultaneously recharge the batteries.
The van project is being taken forward by English firms Intelligent Energy and Revolve Technologies.
Lawrence Berns, CEO of Axeon, said: ”We are delighted that Intelligent Energy and Revolve selected Axeon to supply the batteries for its prototype range-extended vans, which underlines the versatility of our high-performance battery systems.”
