They responded amid concerns that the frightened and hissing signet might attack a child. The bird suffered a broken wing after becoming entangled in an overhead electricity wire near the Seven Arches path used by dog walkers and cyclists. Eventually the bird was rescued by a representative of Broughty Ferry-based Shanwell Wildlife Rescue. The swan’s plight was witnessed by 91-year-old Jack Belford, from Monifieth, when he was out walking his border collie Shep. He said: ”The swan was standing in the middle of the path obviously in difficulties. Nobody was approaching it. It was frightened and hissing. “It was obviously injured. It looked like it had a broken wing. I think it had flown into the overhead electrical cables in that area. ”I know several of the dog walkers were quite concerned what was going to happen to it. I called the police and they said it was being dealt with.” A police spokesman said: ”There was a concern because it was injured and a swan has got a large beak and could injure a kiddie.”
