Dundee defender confident video will come to the rescue of Rab Douglas

Dundee’s Matt Lockwood believes video evidence will clear the way for Rab Douglas to play against Raith Rovers at the weekend.

The veteran keeper was dismissed on Saturday against Partick Thistle after referee Steven McLean decided he had brought down striker Chris Erskine inside the box.

The Jags player himself later cleared Douglas of blame, saying he felt it was Lockwood who pushed him and Dundee have lodged an appeal with the SFA against the red card.

They will deliver their verdict on Thursday and Lockwood is confident Douglas will be cleared.

He said: ”I would hope Rab will have a good chance of getting off, given the evidence the club have.

”The lad himself has said he didn’t get touched by Rab and that I shoved him, although I dispute that bit of it. I wasn’t close enough to push him.

”I realised he was trying to take Rab on and he’s a big target to get around so I knew I didn’t have to get too near. He fell into me once he went to the floor but I didn’t think it was a penalty.

”It was one of those ones where he’s asked the referee to make a decision and he’s given a penalty. You see them given and on the other hand you sometimes see guys booked for diving.

”It was just down to the referee and the angle he saw it at. Unfortunately, he gave a penalty and a red card to Rab.

”The club have appealed now so we will wait to see what they say after watching the video.”
