Money worries are among the most common issues seen by staff at Dundee’s Citizens Advice Bureau over the last 12 months.
Latest figures released by the organisation reveal that of the 8,947 clients who sought advice, 32% wanted information on benefits and a further 16% were fearful of their level of debt.
The findings underline the ongoing impact widespread unemployment and rise in living costs is having on people in and around the city.
The CAB directors’ report comments on the findings, saying: ”This would seem to reflect the general concerns facing people in the current economic climate i.e. lack of financial and job security.
”There is often an overlap with issues for those seeking assistance and it is common for people to receive help with more than one issue at a time.
”For example someone losing their job may initially seek advice on employment rights such as whether the dismissal was fair or unfair, but losing their job will obviously also have an impact on their financial situation.”
Off all enquiries relating to debt information the vast majority concerned credit and store cards followed by personal loans and overdrafts.
Surprisingly, fuel costs recorded the second lowest number with just 47 enquiries.
As a result of the advice given by CAB staff over £1 million has been secured in benefits by clients.
