Dundee planning to carry positive momentum into Scottish Cup tie

Dundee boss Barry Smith admits he is hoping for a good Scottish Cup run to boost his players’ confidence and club coffers.

The Dark Blues won their second successive league game at the weekend, showing great character as they overcame the loss of an early goal at Morton to win 2-1.

Dundee now travel to face Stirling Albion in the cup on Saturday and Smith is looking for his players to continue to build on their recent momentum.

He said: ”Cappielow is always a difficult place to go to, so the lads did really well to come back after going a goal behind to win the game. That’s two wins in a row and we have a wee bit of momentum going again.

”We want to go out in the cup game and win again to continue to build confidence. The club also still needs money coming in and if we could get a run in the cup, all the better. That’s what we will be aiming to do.”

Smith revealed that on-loan Hearts striker Calum Elliot will continue to work towards making a comeback this week and the Dens Park boss is also keeping his fingers crossed that Jake Hyde will have recovered after suffering a heavy head knock in a collision with Morton keeper Dominic Cervi.

He added: ”Jake went to the hospital after the game for a precautionary check and we hope he will be OK for the weekend

”Calum Elliot will be back in training with us on Tuesday. Graham Bayne is still another two weeks away from making a return.”
