An Angus couple this week told how Scottish lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone cooked for them in their home and then did the washing up!
Mark and Pat Drummond, who own PD Cars in Carnoustie, successfully bid for the experience at a silent charity auction in Glasgow as part of a fundraiser for Erskine veterans’ homes.
The full package was supposed to include a year’s supply of lingerie, but following her appearance on the BBC’s Celebrity Masterchef the entrepreneur decided to throw in a night of fine dining as an added extra.
Backed up by the executive chef of Glasgow’s exclusive 29 restaurant, Michelle cooked a sumptuous menu for a party of 12 at the family home in Carnoustie, including a scallop and langoustine starter, followed by lamb wellington with potatoes and roast vegetables and a chocolate dessert with hot butterscotch sauce.
Pat said it was a ”fantastic experience” to have such a well-known public figure serving up to family and friends.
She said: ”There were 12 of us and Michelle served it up. It was fab and we all had a great time.”
Pat added: ”I have met Michelle a couple of times before and we were sitting at her table during the charity ball. The lot she had up didn’t include the meal, but she stood up and asked if she could speak and said she would cook at somebody’s house.”
A team of restaurant staff helped with the preparation and clean up, and even provided crockery and cutlery.
In addition to the home cooking, Pat and a group of nine friends were invited to the Ultimo headquarters in East Kilbride, where they were measured for new underwear.
While the prize was a dream come true for the ladies, Pat revealed her husband had originally set his sights on a different item.
She said: ”He bid for a fourball at Gleneagles, but when that came up he knew he hadn’t got it. When the lot with Michelle came up I couldn’t believe he was bidding he put his hand up from start to finish to win it.”
Mark said: ”The donation I made goes to Erskine House, who nurse and care for our wounded military, which in my mind is a very worthy cause.”
