A River Tay fishing beat has been sold for over £1 million.
The Kercock Fishings, which is 15 miles north of Perth, has been purchased by a Scottish buyer and will continue to operate as a commercial rod fishery.
The stretch of river had originally been marketed in 2008 but was withdrawn from sale when the global financial crisis hit.
Returned to the open market again recently, it is believed to have sold quickly this time around.
A source said: ”There will be limited changes but they are improving the quality by reducing the number of rods fishing. Letters have gone out to those affected to tell them what is happening.
”It was a private sale and the existing ghillie will stay there. It’s in good hands and will continue to be a popular salmon beat on the Tay.”
The two-and-a-quarter-mile-long Kercock Fishings near Murthly were created in 2006 when the Middle Tay beats of Upper and Lower Kercock combined and offers double-bank angling.
The sale comes shortly after another beat was placed on the market for £1 million. Newtyle Fishings, which extends one and a quarter miles along the Tay, originally formed part of Murthly and Atholl estates in the area.
William Jackson, the agent handling the sale, said: ”It is only very rarely that a beat of salmon fishing is offered for sale on the River Tay.”
