Cillian Sheridan may have played his last game for St Johnstone, after he was given the news that he has a torn hamstring and will be out of action for between three and six weeks.
Perth boss Steve Lomas hasn’t given up hope of Sheridan returning to action before the end of his six-month loan deal which started in July and the Northern Irishman also revealed he will be trying to extend the former Celtic striker’s stay at McDiarmid Park until the summer.
Lomas reported: ”Unfortunately it isn’t good news. We’re obviously hoping it will be nearer the three than the six weeks but it isn’t what we were wanting to hear. It’s a blow because he’s an important player for us but there’s nothing we can do about it.
”As I’ve said before, Cillian’s bad luck is an opportunity for the likes of Marcus Haber, Carl Finnegan and Sean Higgins. I’m hoping that he will still be able to play for us before the end of the year. I’m also keen to keep him here beyond that. That doesn’t change just because he’s out for a few weeks.
”He’s scored goals and has fitted in very well in the dressing room. The main thing is that we do the right thing by Cillian and get him fit, because he’s got a long career ahead of him.
”Hopefully he’ll see how much we want to keep him here.”
