Man suffers critical injuries in Kirkcaldy flat fire

A Fife man is fighting for his life in hospital following a fierce fire at a flat in Kirkcaldy.
Firefighters were called to the first-floor property in Lawson Street at around 6.25pm on Wednesday, with two crews from Kirkcaldy fire station arriving to find the flat well alight.
It is understood the male occupant was rescued from the house by fire service personnel and taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline by a waiting ambulance.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed the man, who has not been named, had suffered serious burns and facial injuries. His condition was described as ”critical”.
With the flat’s occupant in hospital, the fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control using four breathing apparatus sets and two hose reel jets within an hour, although they remained behind for some time afterwards to dampen down the area and remove any debris.
Firefighters also checked adjacent properties but no-one else was injured in the incident.
A spokesman for Fife Fire and Rescue Service said a full investigation would be carried out, with both the electricity and gas boards assisting their efforts.
