Raith Rovers received some good news ahead of tonight’s trip to Hamilton Accies.

It has emerged that Iain Williamson’s injury is not nearly as bad as everyone at Stark’s Park feared.

Williamson was carried off on a stretcher during Saturday’s 4-0 loss away to Livingston and the outlook appeared to be bleak for the player.

However, the cause of Williamson’s agony appears to have been a burst blood vessel in his leg, with a subsequent X-ray showing there has not been a break.

Manager John McGlynn said: ”There is nothing broken or seriously wrong and that is a relief for both Iain and the club. It is not as bad as we thought at the time and he has been walking about.”

He added: ”The game against Hamilton will come too quickly for him but if he continues to improve he could make it for Saturday and that will be a terrific turnaround, because it looked bad when he was carried off.”

The news is a welcome pick-me-up after a terrible result at Livi.

McGlynn said: ”We have to put that defeat behind us. It was a horror show and there is no hiding from that.”

He added: ”I firmly believe we are a better team than we showed on Saturday and it is now up to us to prove that’s the case.

”It is good that we have a game as soon as this because you always want to play as quickly as you can after a loss like that one.”

Hamilton boss Billy Reid has asked his players for the same again against Raith tonight, despite Accies losing 1-0 to Falkirk at the weekend.

Reid said: ”If we play like we did on Saturday we will get good results between now and the end of the season. The only thing we did not do was convert our chances but I am sure if we keep knocking on the door we will get in.

”After the Morton game last midweek we have hit a high performance level in the last half a dozen games and once we start getting the goals we deserve, we will win a good few games between now and the end of the season.

”We have had two good games against Raith this season and only picked up a point but if we can play to the standard we set against Falkirk I am sure we will do well. It will be difficult as they will be hurt by losing at Livingston on Saturday and will be looking to hit back.”

Mark McLaughlin and Ali Crawford have been ruled out and young striker Andy Ryan is a doubt with a shin injury.
