A decision on where the replacement for Madras College should be sited will not be taken before May’s council elections.
Fife Council confirmed the shock news about the £40 million development on Thursday, saying it will be ”respectful” of the full consultation process on the future of the school following the results of the recently concluded public consultation on Kilrymont.
But while the local authority says it will take the time needed to further reflect on the consultation’s outcome, the delay is likely to incense campaigners fighting for a new build.
Around 55% of the 2,752 respondents to the consultation said they were against the council’s plans to remodel and extend the existing campus at Kilrymont, although it will be up to councillors to decide whether or not to press ahead with that option regardless or look at alternative sites.
The latest delay has caused some concern among members of the Parent Voice group.
Spokesman Brian Thomson said: ”Parent Voice understands the timescale in which the Fife Council administration is operating, and that no final decision on a new Madras College can be taken before the new administration is formed after the May elections.
”It is disappointing, however, that the outcome of the clear vote against the Kilrymont proposal has not resulted in a sense of urgency about examining the various greenfield options, which seem to offer so much promise of a really good solution to a long-standing problem.”
