A young mother has spoken of her heartache after the father of her unborn child died on a Dundee football pitch.
Lisa Hansen paid tribute to Shaun Kelly (20), who could not be resuscitated after collapsing during an amateur game at Drumgeith Park on Saturday morning.
The couple, who already have a two-year-old daughter Kieva, were expecting their second child together.
Lisa said: ”It just doesn’t seem real. I feel like I’m the luckiest girl to have even had the four years I got to spend with the most perfect boyfriend and daddy to my babies.”
Shaun collapsed while playing for Thomson Gunners in their Dundee Saturday Morning Football League match against DK Raiders, a team of local dental students. The teams had been playing for just over half an hour when DK Raiders scored. As the players returned to the centre circle, they saw Shaun lying motionless.
Both sets of players made efforts to resuscitate Shaun and despite paramedics arriving swiftly on the scene, he was declared dead shortly after arriving at Ninewells Hospital. The cause of his death is still unknown.
DK Raiders manager Zander Bell said the incident had shocked his players.
”It was absolutely devastating,” he said. ”Some of the guys were in tears afterwards. It was obvious that something was very wrong.
”We had noticed he was on the ground and we ran over to try and help. Nobody had a clue what had happened.”
Friends and fellow footballers have been paying online tributes to Shaun as shock over his sudden death continues.
Alister Christie’s tribute was typical, as he posted: ”He was only 20 years old. It is very sad to see that happen to anyone. R.I.P Shaun from all the teams in the league.”
