Perth will today regain its rightful status as a city.
A decades-long campaign will come to a successful conclusion when it is announced the Fair City is to gain official recognition from the Queen as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The statement released to the House of Commons this morning is sure to provoke delight across Perth, where politicians, civic leaders and business figures have tirelessly argued for the honour.
MPs will learn that Perth is to be made Scotland’s seventh city after a compelling case supported by The Courier was made to the UK Government in a bid document prepared by the council.
While the final decision on which town would be successful rested with the Queen, Her Majesty is understood to have sought advice from government ministers.
