Family Protection Unit detective Iain Ledger sacked by Tayside Police

Disgraced detective Iain Ledger has been sacked by Tayside Police.

The 47-year-old admitted at Dundee Sheriff Court in December making phone calls to a chatline discussing detailed sexual acts with a child.

However, he avoided jail when sentenced in January despite a sheriff telling him he may have ”prejudiced sensitive police inquiries”.

After the plea, the matter was passed to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gordon Scobbie, for consideration and Ledger was told to stay away from work while it was carried out.

A spokesman for Tayside Police confirmed he is no longer employed by the force and it is understood Ledger, who had worked with the force’s Family Protection Unit, was sacked after his disciplinary hearing.

”Tayside Police can confirm that a 47-year-old man is no longer a serving police officer with the force,” said the spokesman.

Former Detective Constable Ledger, of Kenmore Gardens, declined to comment.

He was uncovered after a moderator online reported an inappropriate reference to a child in his introductory message.

After his plea, Ledger was placed on the sex offenders register.
