Amateur football teams across Dundee will fall silent this weekend to remember Shaun Kelly, who collapsed and died during a match on Saturday.
The 20-year-old fell to the ground as he played for the Thomson Gunners at Drumgeith Park during a Dundee Saturday Morning Football League (DSMFL) match.
Efforts to revive the father-of-one, who was expecting his second child with his girlfriend Lisa Hansen, failed and he was later pronounced dead at Ninewells Hospital.
As a mark of respect all amateur matches due to be played in the league this weekend will be preceded by a minute’s silence.
League secretary Stephen McSwiggan said the games are going ahead with the consent of Mr Kelly’s family and his teammates.
He added: ”They were keen that games went on as planned. I am sure it will be a sombre experience but we are all very supportive of each other and wish to pay a dignified tribute to a much loved and well respected player.”
At the time of his death Mr Kelly was playing against the DK Raiders, a team of dental students.
The teams had been playing for just over half an hour when DK Raiders scored. As the players returned to the centre circle, they saw Mr Kelly lying motionless.
