Scottish Water blames Dundee mains burst on ‘external contractor damage’

Homes in the Mill o’ Mains area of Dundee had their water supply disrupted after a main was damaged.

The rupture in the pipe in Hebrides Drive around lunchtime on Friday affected customers in the nearby estates of Dalclaverhouse and Emmock Woods but Scottish Water was unable to provide a figure for the total number of homes concerned.

Some residents contacted The Courier through our Facebook page to comment on the difficulties they were having.

Claire Bisset, from Dalclaverhouse, said she had ”not a drop since lunchtime” and Kevin Dunn said the supply in Mill o’ Mains had ”been off for hours”.

Claire Bertie confirmed that Emmock Woods was also affected, saying her water had also been off since lunchtime.

Scottish Water said it had received reports of loss of water supply, low pressure and discoloured water, although a spokesman said the impact appeared to be limited to ”a few streets”.

He added: ”Scottish Water engineers have been working this afternoon to repair a burst water main in the Hebrides Drive area of Dundee.

”The burst was the result of external contractor damage. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The burst was isolated while the repair work was carried out and most customers had their supply restored by 5.30pm, with the remaining householders reconnected after the repair was completed at 6.30pm.

Scottish Water then carried out an inspection to ensure the problem had been rectified.

The Mill o’ Mains area is the scene of an extensive redevelopment programme with major reconstruction work taking place.
