Travellers who threatened to take the shine off an Angus club’s 450th anniversary celebrations have moved on.
A 48-hour eviction notice was served on the encampment at Montrose Links on Wednesday but they vowed to stay put until Sunday.
The camp’s arrival could not have come at a worse time for the club.
Catriona Matthew, one of the world’s top female golfers, arrived on Friday to officially open Montrose Medal’s newly-extended, 450-yard 11th hole.
The Travellers told The Courier they would not be forced off the site before the former British Women’s Open champion’s visit.
True to their word, the group of six caravans and other vehicles left the area on Sunday, having been parked just off the car park opposite the entrance to the course.
They left the area in a tidy state and took away their rubbish something they said they would do when they were approached by The Courier last week.
