A former drug dealer has told Angus students they can be entrepreneurs, regardless of their background.
Ryan Longmuir from Cumbernauld turned his life around after being caught trying to smuggle 100 ecstasy tablets back from New Zealand.
After becoming a Christian his outlook on life changed and he got involved with a project helping drug addicts and their families.
When the funding for his role in the scheme ended, he decided it was time to start his own venture.
Speaking at Angus College Centre for Enterprise in Arbroath on Wednesday, Ryan told students how he began a small catering firm which has grown into a successful company.
He said: ”In 2003, the charity I worked for couldn’t pay my wages any more so I decided it was time to set up my own business. I thought I would make a million in two years, but I quickly found out it doesn’t work that way.”
Ryan was just 20 when he started to get involved in the drug scene and now at the age of 33 owns Regis Banqueting Ltd.
He added: ”I want to let people understand that anybody can be successful.”
