The country’s football supporters have delivered a resounding ”no” to the possibility of any Rangers newco being granted immediate re-entry into the SPL.

With the Ibrox side still in administration and struggling to find a buyer, the threat of liquidation for the stricken Glasgow giant looms ever larger.

However, in an online survey that has attracted close to 12,000 responses, 95.74% of fans insist that if the doomsday scenario were to occur, Rangers should not be let straight back in to the top tier of Scottish football.

Alarmingly for other clubs, when asked: ”In the event of a Rangers newco being allowed immediate re-entry, how would you respond?”, 52.96% said they would stop attending SPL fixtures altogether.

Strength of feeling was even higher among fans of clubs in Courier country.

In answer to the first question, out of 575 Dundee United fans who had responded, 97.74% replied no, while 62.61% said they would stop attending all SPL matches.

Out of 228 responses from St Johnstone supporters, the figures were 96.05% and 56.14% respectively, while from 372 Dunfermline fans, they were 97.04% and 62.10%.

The SPL are also set to consider new proposals for financial fair play at a meeting on April 30.

These include a 10-point penalty for two seasons for any club that transfers its share in the SPL to a new company and a 75% reduction in payments to any club relaunched as a new company for a period of three seasons.

However, fans have given the suggested measures short shrift with 63.05% providing a negative reaction.

These figures were accurate as of Wednesday morning out of a total of 11,993 responses at www.splsurvey.co.uk
