The Spaniard left colleague Dave Mackay raging after collecting a straight red card for kicking Dundee United defender Sean Dillon after 57 minutes of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at McDiarmid Park.
Sandaza had been booked just a minute earlier but he failed to heed the warning.
The Tangerines were only one-up when referee Euan Norris gave Sandaza his marching orders and Mackay felt he ruined any chance the home side had of staging a comeback.
It was unseemly stuff as Sandaza first pushed away Jamie Adams then had a heated verbal exchange with Mackay as he slowly made his way off the park. Mackay certainly didn’t miss him when he reflected upon the sorry episode.
He declared: ”It was just stupid. If he (Sandaza) has kicked out at the boy it’s ridiculous. He had just been booked before it and he has absolutely killed us.
”He has been top-drawer for us this season and has scored loads of goals for us but that’s him probably out until the last game of the season now.
”It’s not good for us if he is doing stupid things like that. I have never seen him do anything like that before on a pitch,” said Mackay.
”He is a bit of a sulky character round about the place as well but I just think it was stupidity. If you have made a mistake, just get yourself off but he was hanging about and just getting himself into more trouble.”
What made matters worse, according to Mackay, was the lack of any contrition on Sandaza’s part when the rest of the Saints players made it back inside after full-time.
”He has not even apologised to the boys in the changing room either, which is out of order,” said the defender. ”If he had come in and said ‘sorry lads’ but he just seems to play the victim.
”He was in the changing room and a couple of boys had a wee go at him but he is just one of those guys who, if things are not going for him, likes to play the victim and everything and everybody is against him.
”He has probably been our best player all season but to do a stupid thing like that when we are facing the biggest five games of our season is not good. And he is no good to us sitting in the stand.”
As alluded to by Mackay, Sandaza’s offence is likely to carry a three-game suspension, meaning he will sit out the next three matches, all away from home, against Motherwell, Celtic and Hearts.
