Last call for Craigtoun Park contracts

The deadline is looming for anyone interested in running attractions in Craigtoun Park this summer.

Fife Council is reminding interested businesses that the deadline for applications is coming up.

The application form can be found online on the Public Contracts Scotland website and the closing date is 3pm this Friday.

As well as the opportunity to run the miniature railway, there is also an additional chance to run other attractions including putting, boating, catering and ice cream concessions.

Area services manager Kate Hughes said: ”We wanted to remind any businesses who want to apply that the deadline is almost up.

”We will only accept attractions that are appropriate to the park and that don’t disturb people who live nearby but hope we can look forward to offering as much as possible for Fifers at the park this summer.”

The attractions in the park will also complement other free-of-charge attractions on offer at Craigtoun.

Local views are that a properly marketed Craigtoun Park could be a major tourist draw for UK and international visitors to St Andrews, as well as again becoming a popular destination for day trippers.

There has been growing concern in recent years about the increasingly dilapidated state of the Fife Council-owned park.

St Andrews Community Council hopes a Craigtoun Community Trust will eventually take responsibility for the maintenance and development of the park and will seek funding for its refurbishment and devise a business plan that will ensure it achieves financial sustainability.

Meanwhile Fife Council confirmed that Craigtoun will continue to be operated as a free-to-enter park for the foreseeable future.

The local authority has committed funding to the park for at least another 12 months and put the management of operations including catering, the train, boats and putting out to tender with the intention that these services will be provided by the private sector this summer.
