A man was attacked after slapping his wife in the street, a court has heard.
Appearing from custody at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Monday, Mariusz Jaworowski (38), of The Maltings, Montrose, admitted assaulting his wife on George Street on Sunday.
The court heard the couple had been drinking heavily and had got into an argument while standing outside The Yard nightclub.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said: ”Witnesses observed the accused slapping her on the face, causing her to fall backwards over a wall at the locus.
”Witnesses saw the complainer crying and upset and officers standing nearby observed a number of males starting to close around the accused.”
Police spoke to the woman, who was found to be intoxicated and unable to speak much English.
Jaworowski’s defence agent said his client had been assaulted by a number of people after the incident and had suffered a cut to the nose.
He added: ”An argument had developed prior to this assault. My client wanted to go home and his wife wanted more drink and this was the friction that caused the assault to take place.”
Sheriff Peter Paterson fined Jaworowski £200.
