Nando’s says Nethergate restaurant plans will return building to ‘former glory’

Nando’s Chickenland has been granted permission by Dundee City Council for alterations to the front of the B-listed building at 2-4 Nethergate it is turning into a restaurant.
It will put up a retractable awning for an outdoor seating area and replace mosaic tiles.
A council official said: ”Evidence shows that awnings were a common historical feature in the area. The applicants believe that the reinstatement of an awning will play an important part in restoring this attractive shopfront to its former glory and providing added interest to the street scene.
”The existing blue mosaic tiles are to be replaced with black mosaic tiles to match the approved shopfront and the existing paving on the public highway. This will improve the appearance of the property and the conservation area and will not affect the historic fabric of the listed building.”
The Nando’s outlet will replace the Pizza Hut which used to occupy the premises.
