The Dundee clubs have welcomed the “common sense” decision to reduce the derby red cards to bookings on appeal.
United will now be able to field star striker Johnny Russell against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday, while Dundee captain Stephen O’Donnell has been cleared to face Ross County at Dens.
The pair were ordered off by referee Calum Murray following an on-the-ground fracas during the home team’s 3-0 win at Tannadice on Sunday.
O’Donnell was given his red for the initial tackle that sparked the rumpus, bringing with it the allegation of serious foul play.
Russell, meanwhile, was deemed to have retaliated against his opponent and was charged with violent conduct.
It seemed harsh on both players and the city clubs each spent £1000 wisely, with their appeals against the decisions upheld by the SFA’s fast track tribunal on Thursday.
Dundee manager Barry Smith said: ”I was confident that it would be reduced to a yellow.”
United boss Peter Houston added: ”I am obviously delighted that the appeal has been upheld and delighted that common sense has prevailed.
”Now we can look forward to playing against Kilmarnock with a player in our side who is high on confidence.”
