A woman has been treated for minor injuries after falling from a bus and on to the road.
The 56-year-old was taken to Ninewells for treatment after falling through the vehicle’s emergency exit and on to the road outside Olympia swimming pool on Riverside Drive in Dundee.
It is understood the woman had been walking down the centre aisle of the Glasgow-bound Citylink service but lost her footing and fell through the side exit towards the rear of the vehicle.
Police and ambulance crews were quickly on the scene after being alerted to the incident at 11.40am.
Constable Pat Nicol, from Tayside Police road policing unit, said: ”At this stage we believe the person was on the bus and making her way towards the back of the bus.
”We will now be doing inquiries into the nature of the incident to see if there are any flaws with the emergency exit door and we will have to find out if the vehicle was stationary or moving. It could have been a lot worse.”
After being assessed at the scene, the woman was taken to Ninewells as a precaution and is said not to have suffered any serious injury. The incident caused brief delays as motorists were forced to queue as ambulance and police officers attended to the woman.
One passenger, Steve Cowley (35), said: ”We were just sitting at the front of the bus and all we heard was someone shouting from the back ‘stop the bus’. We had no idea what was going on.”
A Scottish Citylink spokesman said ”The vehicle is thought to have been travelling at low speed when the incident occurred. Our immediate thoughts are for the welfare of the person involved in the incident.”
