Dundee tracking Mark Kerr after St Johnstone deal falters

Dundee have noted with interest the failure of Mark Kerr and St Johnstone to agree a deal.

The former Dundee United midfielder was previously made an offer by the Dark Blues but it then seemed certain that Kerr would be signing for Saints.

That hasn’t happened, however, and on Tuesday McDiarmid manager Steve Lomas stated: ”It now looks as is if is not going to happen.”

That has left the door slightly ajar for the Dens men, although there is still a possibility of a short-term deal to tie Kerr to Saints until the new year.

Dundee boss Barry Smith said: ”It is something we will look at, although I can’t say too much before I speak to him.

”As far as making any signing goes, it might just be a case of someone becoming available.

”I am waiting to hear back from a couple of players who are free agents so there are a few options and something could still happen.”

Meanwhile, despite winning the first SPL game of the campaign against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, Smith has welcomed the arrival of the international break.

The Dark Blues have a number of injuries and he is grateful for the chance of some healing time.

”Although we won at the weekend, the international break has come at a good time for us,” said Smith. ”We have a few injuries and when guys are carrying knocks you are pleased to get time to enable them to clear up.”
