A mystery punter has won almost £30,000 after laying down a £2 bet at a Dundee bookies.

The 60-year-old, who is said to be a regular face at the William Hill shop on Whitehall Street, proved that to win a big accumulator you need some luck.

Two late goals turned the man’s slip into a brilliant investment, although some of the wins were more convincing than others.

Crawley provided the biggest upset and had the biggest price at 19/10 as they recorded a 1-0 victory away at recently relegated Doncaster.

Manchester United provided a scare as they held on to record a 3-2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford but the real drama happened elsewhere.

An 87th minute winner for Fleetwood Town earned them a slender win and that was proceeded by an 84th minute Dunfermline winner away to Airdrie.

The most dramatic of wins came at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday came from 2-1 down at home to Millwall to win the game in the dying seconds. Miguel Llera netted twice once in the 68th minute to level and the other one in stoppage time to hand Wednesday and the customer fantastic wins.

The man, who is expected to return to the bookies shop some time this week to lay on his regular weekend football slip, earned a cool £27,740.74 in the 14-fold accumulator.

Although William Hill may be counting its losses, the bookmaker heaped praise on the man and his windfall.

”It is a magnificent win for a regular customer of many years to achieve,” William Hill spokesman Mark Young said. ”It is great news to pay a win like this out brilliant news and congratulations.”

It is not the first time a Dundonian has won big. At the start of the year another unknown punter won more than £32,000 from a £5 bet after he placed a reverse forecast patent picking the first two to cross the line in three separate races.

Two of the races were at dog tracks in Nottingham and Peterborough and the third was a horse race at Wolverhampton.

Incredibly the same man walked away with £45,000 in a similar bet back in 2011.
