Smith seeks fans’ help to pull off another coupon-buster

Dundee boss Barry Smith watched his side burst a few coupons last time out and now he wants them to upset the odds for a second time.

The Dark Blues got a result hardly anyone outside Dens expected when they travelled to Tynecastle and defeated Hearts in their last SPL match.

With current SPL leaders Motherwell the visitors to Dens this weekend, they will have to go the extra mile once again.

Smith is urging his men to dig deep like they did last time out in order to climb the table.

He said: ”Motherwell are sitting top of the league, so all credit to them. They had a great result in their last game, beating Inverness 4-1, so it is guaranteed they will come here on a high.

”But we are the home team and we have to maintain the performance level that we set in the win at Hearts. We have to try and take the positives like keeping a clean sheet at Tynecastle into this one so we can hopefully do the same again.”

Smith has urged the Dundee fans to act as their extra man as they go in search of their first home victory.

He added: ”The supporters have been great. We know it’s going to be a difficult season but we just keep asking them to stay behind us.

”You want to make your home ground a place where it is as difficult as possible to get beaten. Sometimes it can just take one result to give yourself something to build on and they too can play their part.”

Smith will also be boosted by today’s signing of former Dundee United midfielder Mark Kerr.

He said: “Once again we are delighted to have a player with Mark’s experience and ability join us. He has proven himself as a quality footballer at the highest level in the past and we are sure he will do so once more at Dundee FC.”
