The man leading the investigation into the murder of John McMurchie admits he has been ”frustrated” as efforts to trace the killer continue.

DI Bobby Dow said murder squad detectives are still trying to identify all the people who attended parties in the Whitfield area of the city on the night the 50-year-old died.

The father of five from Errol was found by passers-by lying in Fintry Terrace at around 4am on August 12, having sustained a fatal stab wound to the heart.

It is known that Mr McMurchie had been at a party at a home in Murrayfield Gardens, leaving the property around 3.30am.

Police have made extensive efforts to locate those who may have been revelling at homes in the area, but DI Dow admits the process has proven troublesome.

”I’m still frustrated that we’ve not identified everyone despite going round dozens of properties in the area where parties had taken place,” he said.

”We still have not identified all nightshift workers and we remain focused on all nightclub door staff.

”I still remain frustrated that people who have knowledge haven’t come forward it has been us finding them.”

But he added: ”There has been no let-up in the inquiry. I am confident of getting a result.”

Anyone with information should call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.
