‘The house is just wrecked’ Forfar couple’s home flooded with mud

An Angus couple have been left devastated after their home was flooded by a sea of mud during this week’s storms.

George and Irene Hill woke in the early hours of Wednesday to find their carpets, computers, cars and driveway damaged after a flood in a nearby field sent a river of thick sludge cascading down the street and into their property in Lour Road, Forfar.

The couple were too upset to speak to The Courier at the time but their daughters Wanda and Fiona were at the family home to help their parents with the clean-up operation and said their mum and dad were ”gutted” by what had happened.

”Mum woke about 2am and saw that there was flooding in the road which had come down into the drive and right the way through the house,” said daughter Fiona (35). ”There must be thousands of pounds worth of damage. It’s pretty gutting and the house is just wrecked.

”We’ve all taken time off work to come and help because you can’t just leave your mum and dad’s house like that you have to do something to help them.”

Eldest daughter Wanda (38) was also at her parents’ home with her husband to lend a hand.

She said: ”The drainage in the street can’t cope with the volume of water that can come down the hill. You can see what it’s like.”

An Angus Council spokeswoman said local authority staff had assisted residents to use diggers and sweepers to clear mud from driveways, and pledged that help would continue.
