Police are hunting a driver who approached a Dunfermline schoolboy and offered him a lift.
The force confirmed yesterday they are investigating an incident in the town in which the primary-school pupil was approached by a car driver while he was heading to school last Thursday.
Police were called to St Margaret’s Primary School off Woodmill Road after the school reported a pupil walking along Wedderburn Crescent near Tweeddale Drive had been approached by the motorist at 8.30am.
The driver is alleged to have offered the child a lift, which he declined.
On arriving at school he reported the matter to staff.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Wilson said, “The vehicle has been described as a light blue BMW, driven by a single male occupant.
“He was not known to the child and it is unknown as to whether this was an innocent incident or something of a more sinister nature.”
Community officers have spent the last few days in the area carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
Mr Wilson appealed to anyone who has knowledge of this incident to call Fife Police on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
