The worst of the winter weather would appear to be behind us, but specialists are warning people across Fife and Tayside not to ditch their woolies just yet, after predicting a colder than normal start to spring.
Weather Services International (WSI) yesterday predicted that the regions could be feeling the chill into April, with much of the UK unlikely to escape winter’s icy grip.
Although unlikely to be a repeat of December’s conditions, hopes of a bad winter being alleviated by a mild spring appear dashed.
WSI chief meteorologist Dr Todd Crawford said, “The recent two-month stretch of persistently negative North Atlantic oscillation has ended, leaving a more seasonable pattern across Europe.
“We think that this more atmospherically relaxed pattern will persist well into February, confining any below-normal temperatures to northern regions.
“We expect a return to more severe and widespread below-normal temperatures across much of Europe, lasting well into spring.”
