Dundee United have released striker Danny Cadamarteri.
The former Everton man’s contract at Tannadice was due to run out in the summer, and boss Peter Houston is hoping that the money saved on his wages over the next few months will allow him scope to bolster his injury-hit squad.
Cadamarteri, signed from Huddersfield Town by Craig Levein in 2009, was one of the club’s highest earners, but has been a bit-part player for some time.
Houston said, “Danny came to us and said he wants to play football and that he had a couple of things he could go to.
“He wasn’t going to be here beyond the summer so we have reached an agreement with him to go now. He leaves Tannadice with our best wishes.”
He added, “With Danny going the club will save some money between now and the end of the season so I will be speaking to the chairman about what we’re going to do.
“I would like to bring someone else in because we are down to the bare bones but we’ll have to discuss that.
“I don’t know if the finances will allow we’ll just have to wait and see.”
