Police have increased patrols in the Gallatown area of Kirkcaldy after two females were robbed only two days apart.
Last Tuesday a female was assaulted by a man and robbed of her mobile phone at around 6.35pm in Caithness Place.
Just a few streets away, in Overton Road, another female was attacked by a man who took her handbag at around 9.20pm last Thursday.
The male in the first incident was described as between 18 and 30, 5ft 8in with facial hair and wearing a dark puffa-style jacket and a baseball cap.
In the second incident the description of the assailant was a man in his 20s, of average build and wearing a dark hooded jacket and trousers.
Fife Constabulary has not ruled out the possibility the crimes are linked.
Detective Sergeant Colin Robson of Kirkcaldy CID said, “This was a frightening experience for the victims and fortunately nobody was hurt.
“We are investigating both incidents separately, however cannot rule out that they are linked due to the circumstances of the crimes.
“We have extra officers dedicated to investigating these crimes and have increased high visibility foot patrols in the area.
“We would appeal for anyone with information to contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
