Willie Gibson could soon be lining up against the likes of Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford, after the Dunfermline winger completed a deadline day transfer to FA Cup headline makers Crawley Town.
Managed by Scot Steve Evans, the Conference club are due to play Manchester United later this month in the fifth round after knocking out Torquay United on Saturday.
The non-league outfit offered £150,000 for the Pars player in the summer only for Gibson to knock it back.
Their persistence has paid off however, as the 26-year-old has now agreed to the move for an undisclosed fee.
Pars boss Jim McIntyre, who was understood to be in talks with experienced St Mirren midfielder Hugh Murray on Monday night, said, “Willie has been an important member of our squad but he had only four months left on his contract and Crawley made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. He goes their with our best wishes.”
Gibson said, “I’ll be trying to do my best to get into the team for that one and I’m really looking forward to the fantastic opportunity at Crawley.
“I’d like to thank everybody at Dunfermline and hopefully they will get promoted to the SPL this season.”
