This biggest week in Brechin City’s season is about to begin in Livingston.
The Glebe Park side have the chance to go top of the second division table by beating the league leaders on Tuesday night.
After that, there’s the small matter of the trip to Buckie Thistle at the weekend and trying to take the club into the Scottish Cup quarter-final for the first time in their history.
“It’s a huge week and hopefully it will be a great one,” manager Jim Weir said.
“Before our match against Dumbarton on Saturday I told the players that it was important we went into these two games with a win, and we achieved that.
“The scoreline actually flattered them because we could have won by a lot more.
“The players are really looking forward to the next few days and there’s no danger of them being distracted by the cup when we’ve got such a big league game. They know it’s their bread and butter.
“Livingston will be confident because they were the last team to beat us in the league and they managed to turn round a match at the weekend that they looked like losing (against East Fife).
“They’ll be thinking they can make the gap bigger at the top but we’ve got our own aims. We had a good win at the weekend and we’ll be looking to kick on.”
His opposite number at Livingston, Gary Bollan, is a former team-mate at St Johnstone.
Weir said, “Gary’s a good friend and he’s become an excellent manager. He and his team will get our respect but I’ve got a hard working bunch of players here determined to get a result.”
Bollan said, “Only ourselves and Motherwell have defeated Brechin on their own patch and no-one has defeated them away from home so that shows you how good a team they are.
“We were a real mixture of highs and lows against East Fife at the weekend. The boys know I want more of the highs and less of the lows from now on.”
Livi will be missing defender Mick O’Byrne through suspension.
City last night clinched the loan signing of Hamilton Accies midfielder Jordan Kirkpatrick.
The 18-year-old has had first-team experience with the SPL club and has agreed a deal with Brechin through to the end of the season.
Midfielder Mark Docherty has left Brechin and signed for Annan Athletic.
