Talks held to revive Perth Connect2 bridge project

Efforts are being made to resuscitate the stalled Connect2 bridge project over the River Tay at Perth.
The withdrawal of support recently by one of the landowners involved for the £2.6 million pedestrian and cycle link over the river seemed to spell the end for the project, at least at that site.
Now it has emerged that Perth and Kinross Council have been locked in talks with Capability Scotland over the issue after the organisation indicated that they no longer wanted the bridge using their land on Isla Road.
“Discussions are under way with Capability Scotland concerning the Connect2 bridge and we are looking to meet with them again in the near future,” said a council spokesman.
Golfers who use the North Inch course had welcomed the stance of Capability Scotland as they believed the bridge was in the wrong place and would damage the holes that run alongside the river.
Many of those who have objected to the siting of the bridge favoured by the council have said they are not against a crossing but at another spot.
The delays have placed Big Lottery funding in jeopardy as the financial assistance comes with assurances over deadlines.
