Brechin City chairman Ken Ferguson has thanked the club’s fans who made the trip to Buckie Thistle on Saturday to see their team book a place in the history books.
City reached the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup for the first time in their long 105-year history with a 2-0 victory at Victoria Park thanks to first-half goals from David McKenna and Rory McAllister.
They now look forward to a home tie against either St Johnstone or Partick Thistle in the last eight.
“On behalf of the players, manager and committee I extend our most grateful thanks to the hundreds of Brechin City fans who made the trip to Buckie on Saturday past,” said Mr Ferguson.
“Your presence contributed to a great day for the club and was very much appreciated by the squad. We look forward to your continued support in our league fixtures and of course the quarter-final tie.”
Andy Wilson, from the BCFC Supporters’ Club, sent an open message of thanks to all concerned for the wonderful hospitality shown on the visit to Buckie Thistle.
“From start to finish, we had a tremendous day,” he said. “Everyone we met before and after the game couldn’t be friendlier either. Even the traffic warden who stopped the traffic for us had time for a wee jig in the middle of the road with one of our fans.
“As I said a wonderful day, obviously made better for us in victory. However, Buckie Thistle should hold their heads high as they showed, especially in the second half, that they can play a bit of good football.
“They may have been beaten but were certainly not disgraced. This is what cup football is all about coming to places like Buckie and having a good day out. No hassle and good banter.”
