St Johnstone are hoping that it will be third time lucky for their Scottish Cup fifth-round tie against Partick Thistle, which is now scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening.
There was no need for a formal pitch inspection on Tuesday to determine that the McDiarmid Park surface would be unplayable by Tuesday night.
However, there are grounds for optimism that the twice-postponed fixture could get the go-ahead at a lunchtime inspection the following day.
Manager Derek McInnes hastily arranged an afternoon training session at Stirling after the latest call-off to ensure his players were kept ticking over.
He said, “As far as myself and the team are concerned, the preparation starts again for what we hope will be a match tomorrow night.
“I know that the club are desperate to get the match played tomorrow and there’s definitely a better chance of it going ahead than there was today.
“Obviously, this situation is far from ideal but we’ll be professional and plan as if the game is definitely being played.
“There’s an attitude at the club that everything possible is going to be done to get it on.”
Liam Craig took part in training and should be available for selection.
McInnes refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with a return to West Brom, where he made 100 appearances between 2000 and 2003.
Manager Roberto Di Matteo was sacked on Sunday after 18 months in charge.
