Weather permitting, Cowdenbeath still have four games left to play in February, but manager Jimmy Nicholl believes it will be the 31 days of March that will shape his club’s first division destiny.
The Central Park outfit have an incredible nine league matches next month, which will be a gruelling schedule for a part-time club among full-timers.
Nicholl said, “With all the rearranged fixtures, those nine matches will be a quarter of a season in one month. Micky (Colin Cameron) joked to me, ‘why don’t we play a season in four months and have the other eight off’.
“There’s no doubt that March will either make us or break us. Looking at it positively, if we have a great March it could see us safe from relegation.”
Next up for Cowdenbeath is the Fife derby with Dunfermline on Saturday.
They were mauled 5-0 at East End Park when the clubs met at the end of December, but Nicholl believes there were mitigating circumstances.
He said, “Dunfermline’s fitness levels were better than ours on the night. Before that match I hadn’t seen some of my players for 10 days because of the snow.
“I’d like to think we’ll be in better shape this time around.”
