The fact that Perth and North Perthshire represents one of Britain”s tightest seats was brought sharply into focus by a bright yellow Teletubby.
Laa-Laa, as the TV favourite is widely known by the nation’s toddlers, is famed for her singing, dancing and curly antenna.
However, she was persuaded to put her favourite toy a bouncy, orange ball for those not in the know to one side in favour of some political campaigning.
With the nation to go to the polls on Thursday, the Teletubby was heard to warn voters that the SNP’s Alex Salmond is “living in Scot-laa-laa-land.”
The nationalists’ fiercest rivals in Perth and North Perthshire are the Tories, who denied putting Laa-Laa up to the job, but nevertheless welcomed her presence.
“Clearly, this Teletubby has a serious message to get across to the people of Perth and North Perthshire which is that Alex Salmond and the SNP are living in laa-laa land,” Conservative candidate Peter Lyburn said.
“Theirs is the only party in this election trying to fool Scottish people into thinking no cuts need to be made to resolve Labour’s debt crisis.”
Meanwhile, when subjected to a series of challenging questions, Laa-Laa herself replied in an enigmatic yet erudite fashion many politicians can only dream of, merely saying, “Eh-oh” before scurrying back to the relative safety of Teletubby land.
