Craig Levein would be a big hit as Celtic boss, according to Willo Flood, who worked under the current Scotland national coach at Dundee United.
Flood, who also had a spell at Parkhead, has not been shocked to see Levein being touted for the top job at the Hoops.
Levein is being heavily tipped as a serious candidate to take over from caretaker boss Neil Lennon in the summer.
Flood, who enjoyed a successful spell at Tannadice before signing for Celtic in January 2009, is now playing for ex-Celtic boss Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough.
He reckons Levein has the experience and standing in the game to wrest the SPL title back from Rangers next season if he was to choose a swift return to club management.
“I’m not surprised that Craig Levein is in Celtic’s thoughts,” said the Irishman.
“Craig has the experience and the right attributes for a club like Celtic.
“He did a terrific job at Dundee United and who’s to say he wouldn’t do the same at Celtic if it goes ahead?Challenge”I can’t think of too many better than him in the business just now.
“He’s the kind who relishes a challenge. Nothing fazes him and when the stakes get higher that’s when he seems to come into his own.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him.
“He helped put my career back on track when he took me to Tannadice from Cardiff City.
“Now I’m sure, if given the opportunity, he could help restore Celtic’s fortunes in the same way.”
Current Tannadice boss Peter Houston has been linked with a move to Parkhead should Levein desert Scotland for Celtic.
But Houston dismissed it as pure conjecture, saying, “I am 100% focused on Dundee United and I don’t want to make any comment on what is speculation.”
