Arbroath welcome Elgin to Gayfield tonight hoping to extend their fragile lead at the top of division three.

The last time the sides met, the Red Lichties were on the right end of a thrilling 5-3 encounter, which saw Keith Gibson and Josh Falkingham both net twice.

New signing Adam Strachan could feature after an impressive spell as a trialist and on-loan Dumbarton man Allan McManus is also in contention.

Stuart Malcolm and Craig Wedderburn both miss the tie through suspension and Alan Rattray remains sidelined through injury.

Elgin City will be without the suspended Neil MacDonald and will also miss Jake Inglis and Craig Frizzell.

Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin said, “Elgin will be coming here determined to get the three points after seeing their own promotion hopes hit at the weekend by Queen’s Park so they will be very dangerous opponents.

“A couple of our recent performances have been flat so I am hoping that Adam’s arrival will lift us and get the energy back amongst the players.”

Elgin City boss Ross Jack added, “We could be stretched that thinly that Paul Miller may have to go on the bench despite being only half fit. I would much rather be taking on Arbroath at full strength but we will patch our boys up as best we can and give it a real go.”

Arbroath lead second-placed Stranraer by just one point and are seven ahead of Elgin, who sit fifth in the table.

Elgin City are missing midfielder Neil MacDonald through suspension after they decided they could not afford to appeal against his red card against Queen’s Park at the weekend.

Also out are midfielder Jake Inglis with a calf problem and Craig Frizzell with a knee knock, while Jack has concerns over two unnamed players.
